About Solid Brass Door Handles

Every Caselle handle is made from 100% solid brass, and some designs pair the brass with a grip of natural green marble, malachite, rosewood or clear acrylic. Start with the grip that suits the room, using the Browse by Grip cards or the filters, then choose a finish and configure the set on its product page.

What's in a set. Passage, privacy and keyed sets include two matching handles for both sides of one door, plus the latch or lock and fixing hardware for the function selected. Dummy options are fixed and do not include a latch: Double-Sided Pair (1 Door) provides handles for both sides of one door, while Single-Sided Pair (2 Doors) provides one single-sided handle for each of two doors.

Choosing a function

  • Passage: turns to open and close but doesn't lock. For closets, hallways, laundry rooms and pantries.
  • Privacy (Pin Lock): locks from the inside with a small push pin on the rosette, with an emergency release outside. For bathrooms and bedrooms.
  • Privacy (Keyless Turnlock): locks from the inside with a thumbturn, with an emergency release outside. For bathrooms and bedrooms.
  • Keyed Lock: key access from the outside and a thumbturn inside, using a mortise-style lock body that needs keyed-lock door preparation. For home offices and storage rooms.
  • Dummy: fixed in place; it doesn't turn, latch or lock. For closets, pantries, French doors and inactive doors.

Fit. Our handle sets are designed for standard U.S. door preparation, and the rosettes are sized to cover a standard 2 1/8" bore hole. Passage and privacy sets use a tubular latch with the standard 2 3/8" (60 mm) backset; some designs also offer 2 3/4" (70 mm), shown as a Backset choice on the product page when available. Some designs are handed, and the product page asks for Left or Right Hand only when it matters. Exact dimensions for each design are in its Specifications.

Frequently asked questions

What comes with a handle set?

Passage, privacy and keyed sets include two matching handles for both sides of one door, plus the latch or lock and the fixing hardware for the function you choose. Keyed sets also include keys.

Dummy options are fixed, with mounting plates and no latch or lock. The Double-Sided Pair (1 Door) provides handles for both sides of one door; the Single-Sided Pair (2 Doors) provides one single-sided handle for each of two doors.

Which function should I choose for a bathroom or bedroom?

Choose a privacy function. Pin Lock locks from the inside with a small push pin on the rosette; Keyless Turnlock locks with a thumbturn. Neither needs a key, and both have an emergency release on the outside.

What's the difference between the two dummy options?

Both are fixed handles that don't turn or latch.

  • Double-Sided Pair (1 Door): two handles installed back to back on both sides of one door.
  • Single-Sided Pair (2 Doors): one single-sided, surface-mounted handle for each of two doors, for example a pair of closet or French doors.
Do I need to choose left or right hand?

Only for handed designs. The product page shows a Handing option when it applies; other designs are reversible. Handing is always judged from the outside of the door, which for a room is usually the hallway side. Face the closed door: hinges on the left mean Left Hand, hinges on the right mean Right Hand, whichever way the door swings.

What is backset, and which one do I need?

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the bore hole. Passage and privacy sets use the standard 2 3/8" (60 mm) latch, and some designs also offer 2 3/4" (70 mm), shown as a Backset choice on the product page when available; match your existing door preparation. Keyed sets use a mortise lock body with different preparation, so check the keyed-lock dimensions before drilling. Backset doesn't apply to dummy sets.

Will these handles fit my door?

They're designed for standard U.S. door preparation, with rosettes that cover a standard 2 1/8" bore hole. Each product lists its exact rosette size in Specifications. For unusually thick, thin or non-standard doors, contact us before ordering.

Can I use a keyed handle on an exterior door?

Our keyed sets are intended for interior rooms where key access is useful, such as home offices and storage rooms. They aren't a substitute for a dedicated high-security deadbolt or primary exterior security hardware. For any exterior-facing door, check fit, exposure and lock requirements with your installer or locksmith. A qualified locksmith can rekey or replace the key cylinder.

Will the finish and materials match exactly?

Many finish names appear across our handles, knobs, hinges and door stops. The same finish name doesn't guarantee an identical tone across different products or suppliers, so contact us before ordering if an exact match matters. Natural materials also vary: the Como's green marble is genuine stone and shows natural variation in color and veining.
