Door Stop Installation Guide
Before You Begin
Door stops may be installed on the floor, wall, or door depending on the model. Always check the product specifications before installation to confirm the correct mounting position.
Common door stop types:
Magnetic Door Stops
Designed to help hold the door open using a magnetic catch.
Standard Door Stops
Fixed bumper or post-style stops designed to help prevent doors from hitting walls, trim, furniture, or hardware.
Tools You May Need
- Screwdriver
- Drill and drill bits
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Level
- Screws and wall plugs or anchors
- Allen key, if required by your model
A. Floor-Mounted Door Stops
Step 1: Confirm the Position
Open the door to the point where you want it to stop. Mark the floor where the door stop should sit to prevent the door from contacting the wall, trim, or nearby furniture.
Step 2: Prepare the Mounting Holes
Place the base or mounting plate over the marked position. Drill pilot holes as needed. If installing into concrete, tile, or another hard surface, use suitable anchors.
Step 3: Secure the Door Stop
Fasten the door stop using the supplied screws and hardware. Tighten until secure, but avoid overtightening.
Step 4: Test the Door
Open the door carefully and confirm that it contacts the stop cleanly and at the correct point.
B. Wall-Mounted Door Stops
Step 1: Mark the Contact Point
Open the door slowly and identify where the door should meet the stop. Mark the wall at the correct height and position.
Step 2: Drill the Holes
Drill pilot holes at the marked location. Use wall plugs or anchors where needed, especially when installing into drywall, masonry, or tile.
Step 3: Install the Door Stop
Attach the door stop to the wall using the provided screws and mounting hardware. Make sure the stop is straight before fully tightening.
Step 4: Check the Fit
Open the door and confirm that it meets the stop properly without scraping, slipping, or striking the surrounding surface.
C. Magnetic Door Stops
Step 1: Align the Base
Position the magnetic base on the floor or wall, depending on the product design. Make sure it lines up with the matching piece that will be installed on the door.
Step 2: Install the Base
Mark the screw holes, drill pilot holes, and secure the magnetic base using the supplied screws.
Step 3: Attach the Door Piece
Install the matching magnetic catch on the door in the corresponding position. Check alignment before fully tightening the screws.
Step 4: Test the Hold
Open the door and make sure the magnetic pieces connect securely and hold the door as intended.
Installation Tips
- Always test the door swing and contact point before drilling.
- Use the correct anchors for drywall, concrete, tile, or masonry.
- For magnetic models, align both pieces carefully before final tightening.
- Do not overtighten screws, as this may damage the mounting surface or hardware.
- If unsure about placement, consult a professional installer.
