Function guide

Rosette

The rosette is the round or square backplate behind the handle or knob.

It sits between the hardware and the door surface, giving the handle a finished look and helping cover the prepared bore hole.

Caselle rosettes are sized for standard U.S. door applications. For replacement projects, the rosette should fully cover the existing bore hole for a clean finished installation.

Handing guide

Door handing guide

Single-Sided Dummy (1 Door): each single-sided handle is made for one hand, so choose its handing the same way. Stand outside, facing the closed door: hinges on the left = Left Hand; hinges on the right = Right Hand.

Backset

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the handle spindle or lock. Measure from the door edge to the center of the existing bore/lock.

Door thickness

Measure the thickness of your door slab at the edge, from face to face, with a ruler or tape. Most interior doors in the U.S. are 1 3/8" (35 mm) and most exterior doors 1 3/4" (44 mm); both are Standard.

Standard fits doors from 1 3/8" to 1 15/16" (35–50 mm) and ships as one complete hardware set, so nothing needs cutting or replacing.

For a thicker door, choose Custom where it is offered and enter your measurement in inches, to the nearest 1/16" (2" to 2 3/4", 50.8–69.9 mm): the hardware is made for your door. If your door is outside these ranges, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm a fit.

  • Every set includes 2 matching handles, except Single-Sided Dummy (1 Door): 1 individual surface-mounted handle for one side of one door.
  • Choose handing from the outside of the door when a Handing option is shown. Hinges left = Left Hand; hinges right = Right Hand.

COMPATIBILITY & FIT
Bore Hole Compatibility

Caselle handle and knob sets are designed for standard U.S. door preparation.

Our rosettes are sized to cover a standard 2 1/8" bore hole. A rosette is the round plate that sits against the door behind the handle or knob. Exact rosette dimensions may vary slightly by product, so please refer to the Specifications section for the precise rosette diameter of the item you are viewing.

For replacement projects, we recommend confirming that the existing bore hole is cleanly prepared and that the selected rosette fully covers the opening.

Door Thickness Compatibility

Standard fits doors from 1 3/8" to 1 15/16" (35–50 mm) thick, including most interior doors and many standard residential entry doors. It ships as one complete set; door thickness is taken up by the included spindle and fastening hardware.

For a thicker door, choose Custom in the Door Thickness option where it is offered and enter your measurement (2" to 2 3/4", 50.8–69.9 mm); the hardware is made for your door.

For doors thinner than 1 3/8", thicker than 2 3/4", or otherwise non-standard, please contact us before ordering.

BACKSET COMPATIBILITY

Passage & Privacy: These configurations use a tubular latch with the standard 2 3/8″ (60 mm) backset. Some designs also offer 2 3/4″ (70 mm); when a design does, it appears as a backset choice in the product options.

Keyed Lock: The keyed configuration uses a mortise lock body with different door-preparation requirements. It does not use the standard 2 3/8″ tubular latch preparation. Please review the keyed-lock dimensions before drilling or mortising the door.

Dummy: Backset does not apply.

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the bore hole. Measure from the door edge, where the latch exits, to the center of the large round handle hole. Backset is not relevant to Dummy handle sets since they have no latch.

The included latch must match your existing door preparation. If a design does not show a 2 3/4″ (70 mm) choice, it is supplied with the standard 2 3/8″ (60 mm) latch; contact us before ordering if your door needs a different backset.

FUNCTION & ROSETTE GUIDE

Function

Function refers to how the handle or knob operates on the door — whether it turns a latch, locks for privacy, uses a key, or is fixed in place.

PASSAGE

A passage set is used for doors that do not need locking.

It includes two operating handles or knobs and a latch. The handle turns to open and close the door, but it does not lock.

Best for: closets, hallways, laundry rooms, pantry doors, and other non-locking doors.

PRIVACY — PIN LOCK

A pin lock privacy set is used for rooms that need simple privacy without a key.

It locks from the inside using a small push pin on the rosette and includes an exterior emergency release.

Best for: bathrooms, bedrooms, guest rooms, and other private rooms.

PRIVACY — KEYLESS TURNLOCK

A keyless turnlock privacy set is used for rooms that need simple privacy without a key.

It locks from the inside with a thumbturn and includes an emergency release on the outside.

Best for: bathrooms, bedrooms, guest rooms, and other private rooms.

KEYED LOCK

A keyed lock set is used when an interior door needs key access from the outside and thumbturn locking from the inside.

It includes an interior thumbturn, exterior key cylinder, lock body, keys, and required installation hardware.

Best for: home offices, storage rooms, supply closets, and interior rooms where keyed access is preferred.

The included key cylinder can be replaced or rekeyed by a qualified locksmith if needed, depending on the installation and lock compatibility.

Not recommended for exterior entry doors or as primary exterior security hardware.

DUMMY

A dummy set is fixed in place and does not turn, latch, or lock.

It is used where a functional latch is not needed, such as closets, pantry doors, French doors, inactive doors, or decorative pull applications.

A Double-Sided Pair (1 Door) includes 2 fixed handles, installed back-to-back on both sides of one door.

A Single-Sided Dummy (1 Door) is 1 individual fixed handle, surface-mounted on one side of one door and supplied with its surface-mount hardware. Where a Handing option is shown, stand outside, facing the closed door: hinges on the left = Left Hand; hinges on the right = Right Hand.

Why Choose Solid Brass

Solid brass offers a heavier, more substantial feel than many lower-cost alternatives, giving the handle a more refined and premium character in daily use.

It is valued for its durability, clean machining, and timeless appearance, making it a strong choice for interior hardware that is meant to feel as good as it looks.

Unlike lighter hollow or lower-grade alternatives, solid brass provides:

  • noticeable weight and presence
  • clean, precise detailing
  • strong long-term durability
  • a more premium architectural feel

Are your products for interior or exterior use?

Caselle handle and knob sets are designed for standard residential door applications, including interior doors and compatible residential entry doors.

For exterior-facing doors, we recommend confirming fit, exposure, and lock requirements with your installer or locksmith before ordering. Keyed lock functions are available, but are not intended to replace a dedicated high-security deadbolt where one is required.
